Essay question;

By both their actions and refusal to help, the society represented by the Sealand woman shows itself to be as prejudiced and intolerant as the people of Waknuk. Do you agree?

Stand: I do not agree with the statement that the society described by the Sealand woman shows itself to be as prejudiced and intolerant as the people of Waknuk.

PEEP When the Sealand woman refused to go back to Waknuk to save Rachel, it wasn't because of selfishness or fear. It was because they were afraid that the distance was too far, and that their fuel wouldn't be enough for them to return to Sealand safely as they had already travelled a long way on the aircraft. The fuel left might just be enough for them to get back safely to Sealand from Fringes, and thus she didn't have the choice but to not save Rachel. For example, when the Sealand women said to them that "Of course we would if we could, but it is a technical matter. You see, the journey was longer than we expected." shows that the Sealand actually wanted to save Rachel, however she didn't expect the distance travelled to be so long. "If we were to go to Waknuk and make another landing and take off there, and try to carry four of you, as well as Petra, we should use up all our fuel before we could reach home.” the sealand woman is trying to explain to them their current situation. They cannot fly back to Waknuk, save Rachel and fly back to Sealand. They definitely wouldn't have enough fuel to bring them safely back to Sealand, the fuel would be drained before reaching Sealand.

Conclusion Therefore i do not agree with the statement that the society described by the Sealand woman shows itself to be as prejudiced and intolerant as the people of Waknuk.
